Some Prominent chiefs in the Tamale Metropolis have bemoaned the alarming rate at which violence in the area had reached was beyond politics. They therefore urged government to widen its scope beyond seeing the matter at stake as a politically orchestrated phenomenon between members of the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party and find remedial solutions to it.
This came to light when a high powered government delegation, led by the minister of Interior, Cletus Avoka who visited Tamale on a fact finding mission, paid courtesy calls on the chief of Tamale and the Regent of Gukpegu at their palaces.
The Regent of Gukpegu, Alhaji Abdulai Ziblim ascribed the skirmishes to the prolonged chieftaincy dispute between the two feuding Abudu and Andani factions in the Dagbon traditional area of the Northern region.
According to the Gukpegu Regent, perpetrators of all forms of criminal acts in the Tamale Metropolis hide under the cover of politics to commits such acts hence making it difficult for government and other stakeholders to find a permanent solution to the problem.
Alhaji Abdulai Ziblim who was a representative on the Otumfuo Mediating Committee by this means suggested to the government to re-visit the committee’s road map to peace document as part of measures to restore peace in the Dagbon State .
He however expressed reservations about conduct of some security personnel in the community and advised them to be neutral and remain vigilant in handling the matter.
